Spirituality WorkshopRev Julie Wright

Julie, an Associate Minister at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, is a friend of Lifespan and has joined us at other academy sessions for our spirituality series.   We are thrilled to have her back with us and look forward to her musings about faith in our lives.

Tai Chi – Tina Rasheed

Our own Tina Rasheed will again be leading us in Tai Chi.  Tina has a 26-year career as a public health researcher at the Morehouse School of Medicine and has applied her mission as a martial artist to bridge the health disparity gap by teaching self-applied health enhancement techniques such as Qigong and Tai Chi as a strategy to promote health and prevent disease.   Tai Chi is a gentle exercise program that is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Derived from the martial arts, Tai Chi is composed of slow, deliberate movements composed of mental focus, deep breathing, and stretching which enhance physical health and emotional well-being.

11:15 am to 12:15 pm

Tell me a Story – Steve Walton

Come and tell a story…about nearly anything!   Steve Walton will help us to tell a story about ourselves …our best day (or night) ever, a peak experience either interesting or enlightening or both, a personal victory, the most favorite outfit we ever wore!  The possibilities are endless.  No need to rehearse, or to write anything down.  Just drop by and join in.

Brandt Ross – Game Changers

We are thrilled to have Brandt Ross returning Winter 2019.  He is one of the favorite speakers at Lifespan  Academy.  Brandt shares “Stories (and the folk music) of people/events that changed our history.”   We all enjoy his stories immensely and look forward to having him with us again.  See below for the list of people and songs he will share with us.

Learn the Ukulele

 Ukulele

The Ukulele Group is still playing along!!  Last session was our first try and we have the beginnings of a wonderful group.  Come and join us this session.  NO MUSICAL TRAINING REQUIRED, BUT LOTS OF FUN TO BE HAD!  Just get yourself a soprano ukulele and  a gig bag and bring it on in.  You will also want to pick up an electronic tuner to keep it in tune. If you want some information, you can go to www.beginnerukuleles.com, or just google ukuleles and find lots of options for the whole kit!  Finally, get The Daily Ukulele Book, by Liz and Jim Beloff – also called the “Yellow Book.”

It is seriously a lot of fun and we would love to have you join us.  You can jump on in any time and see how easy it is to join in.  Mary Crook Moran, our leader,  is an Atlanta native recently returned from Florida, where she spent most of her life (Naples).    She is a music lover who held a ukulele group for the last three years in Florida, meeting weekly, performing at all local libraries and other venues.  Come and join the fun.

iPhone and iPad Class is Back!

Our own Peggy Palmiter will be teaching about both the iPhone and the iPad.  Bring your device and learn how to tame the beast.  Several of our students from this session want to return and we welcome any additional folks who want to join in.

This class is organized based on the things you really want to know about your device.  We take questions and topics from the students and then we integrate those questions into the various skills that you learn.  There are also online resources that are made available for you during and after the class.

I Remember – Rosemary Glenn

The I Remember group has decided to meet in the afternoon for two or  three times this Fall Session. It keeps all of the members working on their writing, helping each other and talking about their stories.  But it also allows them to attend some of the morning sessions that they find interesting.  They will be meeting at 1:30 pm on January 10th,  February 7th and 28th.

Mahjong

Come and join the group and play along. By the Way, this group does play the Japanese version of Mahjong.  They think it’s a lot of fun.  Don’t know how?  Want to learn?  Folks are more than willing to teach.
