Welcome to Lifespan Resources – We build communities that welcome us as we age!

Lifespan Resources – New Visions

Lifespan Resources proudly celebrates 42 years of serving older adults in Atlanta! We have experienced many changes during those years; this year has been no exception. We are saying goodbye to our Lifespan Academy older adult program, our present Executive Director, Peggy Palmiter, is retiring, and we are launching a new Lifespan Intergenerational (IG) program!  We believe our new “Lifespan IG” program will continue the long-established mission of building communities that welcome us as we age.  Let us tell you more!

Lifespan Intergenerational (IG):

Earlier this year, Lifespan’s Board of Directors selected Kerry Thomas as the new Executive Director and lead facilitator of Lifespan’s new program.  Lifespan IG will pair university students with older adults aging in place at home (either by choice or due to mobility limitations). Under Kerry’s leadership, the goal of Lifespan IG is to help bridge the generation gap between young adults and older adults via shared stories and educational classes in a virtual classroom setting, creating mutual connections and helping mitigate social isolation.

Kerry is leading Lifespan into a new era of older adult programming! We are confident you will welcome her, as you have done with all past Lifespan leaders.  To read more about Kerry, click the button below.

Lifespan Academy:

The Spring 2022 session of Lifespan Academy was the first time we returned to in-person classes since the pandemic.  We met at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, historically one of our host congregations. Moving back to in-person classes was challenging for many of our older adults. We are grateful to Peachtree Road United Methodist for making the transition easier.  We have enjoyed and greatly appreciated the continued support of ALL our congregational affiliates and want to thank you for your support of Lifespan for its 42 years. Without that support, we could not have served the older adults in our community.  We particularly appreciate Trinity Presbyterian Church hosting our office for all these wonderful years.  We have always felt part of the Trinity family.

Since the pandemic, we have seen a dramatic decrease in participation at Lifespan Academy.  We have also not been able to resume our Medical Escort Transportation Program.  After many conversations, the Board of Directors decided that the organization needed to move in a different direction. Our last Lifespan Academy ended with the Winter Session in March 2023.

Before the decision to launch a new platform, Lifespan Academy participants enjoyed four excellent sessions in 2022 (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter).  We were also pleased to be able to sponsor activities, crafts, speakers, and lunches for our Agape Ragtime Group for the same four sessions. It was, in part, because f our Impact Grant from Trinity Presbyterian Church that we could bring our Ragtime Group to these sessions of Lifespan Academy.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed that year of learning, celebration, and fun.

Lifespan staff was remote throughout the pandemic, and we did not return to our offices at Trinity regularly.  Everyone got used to a different way of communicating and connecting.  We will focus more on virtual connections as we move forward with our new Lifespan IG program.  Although we will no longer have our offices at Trinity, we hope to continue our Trinity family connection.

As we move forward to new visions at Lifespan, we want to be sure we leave no one behind.  Please click on the newsletter sign-up form and ensure you are on our email list.  That way you can get all of the updates on what is coming next at Lifespan.

We continue to offer our Morning Coffee gatherings, and on Tuesdays we have special presentations by our Lifespan members.  Feel free to come and join in.  Our Book Club also meets on the last Monday of every Month.  The selections are on the Book Club page and we send out an email to remind you.

We also created a Lifespan Directory so we can stay in touch with each other.  As is always the case with any directory, we missed some of you.  I have some of those names, but the BEST think you could do is to fill out the directory form on this website.  If you are already in the directory we distributed at the Lifespan Gathering Day, then you are all set.  We will be sending out a link with an updated directory that you can print or download.
